Hey there, fellow Arizona adventurers! Ready to escape the desert heat and immerse yourself in nature’s playground? We recently embarked on a weekend escape to the enchanting Mogollon Rim and the sparkling waters of Woods Canyon Lake.
Did you know that the Mogollon Rim is a 200-mile-long escarpment that separates the high country from the low desert? It’s like Arizona’s very own natural rollercoaster! And guess what? Woods Canyon Lake is one of its sparkling jewels.
In less than 2 hours from Scottsdale, we arrived at the cozy Mogollon Campsite, where the days were in the 70s and the nights offered a refreshing dip into the mid-50s. Our first morning, we drove over to the Woods Canyon Lake area and parked in the overflow lot. Outfitted with our camelbacks and fishing pole, it was just a short stroll to the lake’s edge.
Kayaks, paddleboards, fishing boats – you name it, Woods Canyon Lake had it! It was a hive of activity. Just imagine yourself soaking up the sun while surrounded by the stunning beauty of this lake.
Later that day, we hiked a mere half-mile from our campsite for a breathtaking viewpoint. The Rim stretched out before us in all its glory, a majestic sight that’s sure to leave you speechless.
Evenings were spent under the starry sky, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs, and sipping on warm hot chocolate. Mornings were all about that perfect cup of percolator coffee and some simple, delicious scrambled eggs cooked over a propane burner. Ah, the simple joys of camping!
And let’s not forget the wildlife! We had a surprise visit from a curious deer who decided to grace us with its presence. Talk about a memorable camping moment!
Arizona boasts hundreds of lakes, many with nearby camping spots. So whether you’re a seasoned camper or a newbie, there’s an outdoor adventure waiting for you. Just remember to grab a fishing license from the Arizona Game and Fish Department if you plan on casting a line.
The ideal time to visit these camping spots depends on your preference. If you love cooler weather and vibrant fall foliage, aim for September and October. For warmer temperatures and water activities, summer is your best bet.
So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, grab your loved ones, and head to the Mogollon Rim for a weekend of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable memories. Your future self will thank you!
